Newsletter 6/24/2022: Do-Nothing/Know-Nothing
From the Desk of Dennis:
Today is a sad day in America for anybody who looks to our federal government for thoughtful leadership and stewardship of the nation. In the one-two punch combination of lessening gun restrictions and overturning Roe V. Wade, the court has sent a signal that conservative leadership in America means a return to know-nothing, do-nothing politics.
Anybody who watched the cops loiter outside the school grounds in Uvalde while children died knows that the current systems (e.g. policing, Texan levels of unfettered gun access) we have in place are not effective at counteracting the ability of a mass shooter - one who has signaled multiple times their desire to create violence, at that - to purchase a gun and inflict terror and death upon our communities.
Anybody who’s seen Cider House Rules knows that pre-Roe, abortion still happened - it happened underground, where it often happens unsafely. Regardless of your ethical perspective on abortion (and for many conservatives, there are tick-tacky ethics at play: see “the Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion” by Joyce Arthur) making it illegal will not stop it.
So in both decisions, the Supreme Court has handed the keys to the inmates (Republican state legislatures) who are braying at the mouth for less personal and medical safety. How is it that every time these conservatives have a big controversial push for “states rights”, it’s for the most evil stuff imaginable?
Anyway, I’m taking the day off of Marketing and Technology updates to focus on calling my representatives. Don’t get mad, get even!
Best,
Dennis A. Wilson
